EXPERIMENT 1: The Physical Effect of an Explosion on Porosity.

EXPERIMENT OUTLINE
TIMETABLE: Weeks 1 - 4, 25% of final grade.
ARCHITECTURAL CHALLENGE: To test and document the physical effect/s of an explosion on a 3 dimensional field of objects.

SOFTWARE: Blogger, GMod, Fraps, Premier, Vegas (trial).
TECHNIQUES: Blogging, Repurposing Computer Games, Machinima, Video Editing.
OUTPUTS: 2 x 30 second video clips, 1 x Blog.
PREMISE: The combination of the physics engines in contemporary computer games with video capture devices provides an opportunity to capture and critically reflect on complex interrelationships between objects, catylists and space.
PROCEDURE
Using GMod, and the 2 dimensional grid supplied, structure a 3 dimensional field of objects ranging in size from small to large. Carefully place explosive devices and record the interrelationships between objects, the explosive catylists and space as they are triggered. Compile video captures into a custom Machinima showing several different versions, or views, of the interrelationships into one 30 second clip with titles and captions as necessary. For a discourse that will reflect on the custom Machinima students will collect and compile found Machinima from online video databases. The found Machinima should represent the intersection between the EXPLOSION and POROSITY and be composited with titles, captions and references as necessary.
