IMPORTANT NOTE: This weeks tutorial is online ... there is NO studio class this week.
1. If you didn't copy Lumion from one of the BE computer labs during last weeks class you have two options: 1, visit the university and copy it from one of the labs this week or 2, download it via VPN.
To access a university network from home you'll need to use what is known as a VPN. The first paragraph on this page describes the UNSW VPN service and if you scroll down that page to the section entitled "What do I need to use the UNSW VPN Service?" you'll see instructions on how to install it for your device; click on the relevant link.
Being able to connect to the university servers wil be very helpful for your future studies so it's well worth the trouble setting this up.
2. Render two views of your developed SketchUp model in Lumion, one Hero shot and one Detail shot.
3. Follow this link to the course blog to see more information on Hero and Detail shots and to see a video tutorial on the workflow from SketchUp to Lumion.
Complete by 23:59 Sunday the 24th of March for your second major submission.
1. Continue to develop your Sketchup model through to a high level of resolution. This model should include the best examples of your custom textures (remember, not all of the models geometry needs to be textured) and the scenes used to construct your animations.
2. Upload your Hero and Detail shots you rendered in Lumion along with a short written statement introducing them and the concepts they are trying to express.
3. Upload your final Sketchup model to the 3dWarehouse. Include "ARCH1101", "EXP1", "2019" and your "Full Name" as tags to your Google Warehouse uploads. See below for a tutorial on how to do this; the appropriate section is labeled "Uploading Models". http://help.sketchup.com/en/article/3000256
4. Finally, review the assessment criteria from the brief to ensure that you have covered all the required aspects, here they are again:
THE THREE WORDS _10%_Do the three words work together to suggest a distinctive and significant approach to engaging with each clients work?
THE 18 SKETCH SECTIONS _10%_Do the sketch sections communicate a distinctive and significant approach the student has taken with respect to the clients work and their relationship to the datum?
THE 36 CUSTOM TEXTURES _ 10%_Do the 36 custom textures demonstrate enquiry and experimentation with respect to ideas of measurement?
THE DEVELOPED STAIR _ 20%_Does the stair demonstrate a distinctive and significant approach to bringing the completed work into the showroom?
THE ARCHITECTURE _50%_ Do the images and animations demonstrate that the student has thought about the relative size of each element, what their proportions are, their orientation, how texture and color map over their surfaces and how all of the above work together to establish the balance or otherwise of their scheme?
